MCMC Introduces New Guidelines to Boost Cybersecurity in the Communications Industry
PUTRAJAYA, Dec 8 – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has launched the Guidelines on Information and Network Security for the Communications and Multimedia Industry (INSG) to strengthen cybersecurity and resilience within the sector.
In a statement, MCMC clarified that the INSG is a best-practice framework, not a mandatory regulation, and is aimed at service providers under the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. However, other industries may adopt the guidelines if needed for their own cybersecurity efforts.
MCMC emphasized that the guidelines are designed to help service providers manage cyber risks, protect against data breaches, minimize disruptions, and safeguard consumers from online threats. The commission encourages providers to operationalize these practices and provide feedback for future improvements.
The development of the INSG involved extensive consultations with stakeholders, including cybersecurity firms, government agencies, and other relevant organizations. MCMC said the guidelines reflect an inclusive approach to addressing the evolving challenges of the digital landscape.
