Power Outage Endangers Lives of 100+ Patients at Key Gaza Hospital
GAZA STRIP — The director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, Hossam Abu Safiyeh, has warned that over 100 patients are at risk due to severe power, oxygen, and water shortages caused by recent Israeli shelling and bombings.
Abu Safiyeh said the hospital, which is one of the few operational medical facilities in the area, has 112 patients, including six in intensive care and 14 children. The ongoing power outage is preventing access to operating rooms, leaving many patients, including those in need of surgery, in critical condition.
"We urgently appeal to the international community for assistance," he said, adding that continued shelling near the hospital is hindering repair efforts.
Israel has claimed it is operating near the hospital but has not directly targeted it. The war, which began after Hamas attacked Israel in October, has left thousands dead, with over 44,000 casualties in Gaza, according to local health authorities.
