On December 13, Malaysia officially launched the National AI Office (NAIO), a new agency under the Ministry of Digital (MoD), with RM10 million allocated for its establishment. The agency, led by Shamsul Izhan Abdul Majid, aims to promote AI adoption, drive innovation, and advise the government on AI policies. While NAIO is currently under the MyDigital Corporation for a 12-month incubation period, its long-term structure, including whether it will become an independent agency with regulatory powers, will be determined during this time. The move signals Malaysia's commitment to advancing AI in the digital economy, though it’s still early days for the agency.
