Bruneian Killed in Sandakan Drag Race Crash, Event Unofficial

SANDAKAN, Dec 16 — A tragic accident during the Sandakan Drag Battle 2024 claimed the life of 36-year-old Bruneian participant, Abang Adib Abang Ali, at the Sandakan Turf Club Circuit on Saturday. The victim lost control of his Honda after crossing the finish line and veered off the track. He was trapped in the vehicle, extricated by firefighters, and later pronounced dead at Duchess of Kent Hospital.

Initial investigations revealed serious injuries, and the case is being treated as a sudden death report. The victim’s body is awaiting autopsy.

The Motorsports Association of Malaysia (MAM) confirmed that the event was unsanctioned and not approved by them. MAM emphasized the importance of ensuring events are properly accredited, following their newly introduced safety and organisational guidelines for drag races. The association expressed condolences to the family of the deceased.
