Terengganu Fire Dept Urges Public to Avoid 12 Erosion-Prone Beaches During Monsoon, High Tides Pose Danger"

The Terengganu Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) has intensified patrols at 21 beaches at risk of erosion, urging the public to avoid these areas during the Northeast Monsoon season. High tides and waves exceeding 3 meters are expected until January 19. The affected areas include Kuala Nerus, Kemaman, Besut, Marang, Kuala Terengganu, Dungun, and Setiu.

Eight fire stations are involved in the patrols, with teams working in three shifts daily. JBPM has warned that severely eroded beaches pose serious dangers, especially with wind speeds reaching up to 60 km/h. The public is also reminded to avoid gathering on beaches or engaging in activities like cockle collection, as safety risks are elevated.

Additionally, the Terengganu State Fisheries Department has cautioned the public about the safety of cockles washed ashore. Bacterial tests are ongoing, with results expected soon, but past analyses have shown elevated levels of harmful bacteria, urging proper cooking before consumption.
