In the ongoing sexual harassment trial of preacher Ebit Lew, a cybersecurity expert testified that deleted WhatsApp messages between the complainant and Lew could not be retrieved. Mohd Zabri Adil Talib, head of Cybersecurity Malaysia’s Responsive Technology and Services Division, explained that an analysis of three SIM cards—belonging to the complainant and Lew—showed that once WhatsApp messages are deleted, they cannot be recovered due to current technological limitations. Lew, 39, faces 11 charges, including sending obscene messages to the complainant via WhatsApp between March and June 2021. The trial is set to resume on March 11.
