KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia are really on a roll at the IBF Para Bowling World Championships in Hong Kong as Marcos Chang became the country's second world champion following Abang Yahya Abang Azhar's success.
Marcos triumphed in the men's TPB9 singles (lower limb disability) at Kai Tak Sports Park Bowling Centre on Wednesday, scoring 1,393 pinfalls. He finished ahead of Heo Myeong Jin (1,321) and Lin Yen Shuan (1,283) of Taiwan.
His victory came on the heels of Yahya's gold medal win in the men's TPB4 singles (intellectual disability).
Yahya continued his impressive run by claiming a second gold in the All-Events and a silver in the men's TPB4 doubles with Madzhi Mahamad Rizuan. The pair's combined score of 2,486 placed them behind Australian winners Allen Tyler and Strong Kallan (2,606).
Malaysian women's bowlers also excelled, bagging two silvers through Nur Amalina Mohd Mosadad in the TPB10 singles (upper limb disability) and the duo of Nur Syazwani Marais and Azeera Jalani in the TPB4 doubles.
Malaysia's total medal count at the world meet now stands at three golds and four silvers, meeting the target set by the Malaysia Para Bowling Association.
Team manager Rakia'ah Ali said: "The team is overjoyed. Abang Yahya's performance was exceptional, winning two golds in his first official world event representing Malaysia.
