LONDON — Ruben Amorim has warned that Manchester United must sell players to fund the rebuilding of his struggling team due to financial limitations. The Portuguese manager acknowledged the challenges ahead, especially as the club sits 13th in the Premier League, with limited room for transfer market activity.

Since Jim Ratcliffe’s minority ownership began a year ago, United has faced financial cuts, including staff layoffs and ticket price hikes. Despite this, no permanent player departures occurred during the recent transfer window, though there are expectations for more cost-cutting in the future.

Amorim emphasized that the focus is on improving the team’s performance and preparing for upcoming matches, particularly Sunday’s game against Tottenham. He pointed out that selling players will be necessary to make new signings, with the summer window offering a better opportunity for change.

While Ratcliffe’s ambition is to win the Premier League by 2028, Amorim acknowledged the club’s difficult situation, stressing that significant improvements are needed both on and off the field.
