SINGAPORE: Singapore's Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs, Masagos Zulkifli, has described the renewed hostilities in Gaza as unacceptable, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, as they have caused a tragic rise in civilian casualties.

Masagos, who also serves as Minister for Social and Family Development, urged the public to support official humanitarian efforts amid the deepening crisis in Gaza.

"Since the latest conflict, which has continued for more than a year, the Rahmatan Lil Alamin Foundation Singapore (RLAF) has regularly raised funds for relief work in Gaza," he said in a Facebook post.

"Officials who have been on the ground conveyed to me that the Palestinians appreciate Singapore's consistent aid," he added, emphasising the importance of international support for those affected.

The minister also encouraged unity through prayer during Ramadan.

"As we come together in these last ten nights of Ramadan, beyond seeking the blessings of Lailatul Qadar, let's also unite in prayer for peace and relief for those who are suffering, including the people of Gaza. May we keep them close in every heartfelt prayer we make, seeking strength for them and ease in their struggles."

Singapore, meanwhile, expressed its concern over the ongoing violence and called on all parties to return to negotiations for a permanent ceasefire.

Reports indicate that over 700 Palestinians have been killed and 900 injured since Israeli attacks resumed on Tuesday, ending a ceasefire that had been in place since Jan 19.
