The owner of the lorry involved in the tragic accident that killed nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) officers in Teluk Intan stated the vehicle had passed a Puspakom inspection just last month.
Identified only as Ravi, the 58-year-old said all vehicle documents were in order and the road tax was renewed after the inspection. He added that the lorry driver, 45-year-old Rudy Sulkarnain Mat Radi, had only been working for about six weeks. Rudy has been charged with causing death by reckless driving.
The accident occurred around 8:40 a.m. as the FRU truck was transporting personnel back to their Ipoh base after providing security for a local festival. The lorry, loaded with sand, crashed into the truck.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi noted that preliminary findings suggest a mechanical failure, hinting that a thorough inspection might have prevented the accident.
Visibly emotional, Ravi expressed deep regret over the loss and extended his condolences and apologies to the victims’ families. “I think about how they must feel, having lost loved ones. I hope to meet them personally and express my sympathies,” he said.
