A 21-year-old woman, Norazzeti Azima Awang Long, was sentenced to nine months in jail by the Ayer Keroh Magistrates’ Court for using abortion pills to terminate her five-month pregnancy. She pleaded guilty to taking misoprostol, an abortion-inducing drug, in a Melaka residence on May 12.
Initially claiming miscarriage at the hospital, she later confessed to buying the pills via TikTok and giving the foetus to a friend for burial. The court, citing public concern, rejected leniency despite her financial struggles and family responsibilities. The sentence starts from her arrest on May 19.
