Over 17,000 people in Manitoba, Canada, are being evacuated due to the worst start to the wildfire season in years. A province-wide state of emergency was declared, with military assistance and firefighting resources being deployed. The town of Flin Flon, home to 5,000 residents, is at risk, along with several other remote towns and Indigenous communities. The fires, fueled by dry conditions, have scorched nearly 200,000 hectares of forest in the past month. Manitoba is experiencing the highest fire activity in Canada, with 22 wildfires currently active. Evacuees are mostly being sent to Winnipeg, and shelters are being set up across the province. Climate change is believed to be intensifying the impact of these extreme events.
