Israel accused the United Nations on Wednesday of attempting to block aid distribution in Gaza, as the UN reported efforts to gather the limited assistance allowed by Israeli authorities. Since the imposition of a two-month aid blockade, food security experts warn that one in five people in Gaza face starvation.Israel's Ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, said aid is entering Gaza via trucks at the Kerem Shalom crossing and through a new distribution system, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which the UN rejects for not adhering to humanitarian principles. A chaotic aid distribution at a GHF center left 47 wounded, with Danon blaming Hamas for roadblocks. The UN countered, saying it won't work with GHF and rejected accusations of blocking aid. Despite approval for 800 truckloads of aid, fewer than 500 have entered Gaza due to security and access restrictions. The humanitarian situation remains dire as Israeli operations in Gaza have killed at least 54,804 people, mostly civilians.
