China and Japan have reached an agreement to restart imports of Japanese seafood, ending a nearly two-year suspension linked to concerns over Fukushima wastewater. Officials from both countries finalized procedures in talks held in Beijing, with exports set to resume once China completes required steps.
Japan will register fishery processing facilities with Chinese authorities and provide inspection certificates confirming seafood safety. The deal marks a key step in easing trade tensions, though restrictions on products from Fukushima and some nearby prefectures remain. Both governments continue negotiations to lift other import bans, including on Japanese beef.
