Johor has recorded 17,594 hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) cases this year, surpassing alert levels since January, mainly affecting children under six. Despite a 26.6% drop in weekly cases, transmission remains active.State Health and Unity Committee chairman Ling Tian Soon said 101 clusters have emerged, mostly in kindergartens, preschools, and nurseries. Of over 4,000 people exposed, 525 were infected. Health alerts were issued in March urging better hygiene, early reporting, and public education. Authorities continue awareness sessions and advise parents and childcare centres to follow strict infection control to curb the spread.
