A health expert has slammed the government's decision to license US-based Ispire Technology to produce nicotine vape devices in Johor, calling it a “huge mistake” that contradicts Malaysia’s goal of becoming tobacco-free by 2040.Dr Zainal Ariffin Omar said the move sends the wrong message, suggesting government support for vaping, especially among youth. Consumer group Fomca echoed the concern, warning it could imply vaping is safe despite lacking solid evidence.

The health ministry clarified that nicotine vape products remain regulated under the 2024 Smoking Products Act, but critics argue public health is being sidelined in favor of industry interests.
