Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s remarks that the party isn't affected by Tengku Zafrul Aziz’s departure reflect Umno’s readiness to move on, says analyst Awang Azman Pawi. He noted the move signals a shift away from technocrats and “parachute candidates” toward rebuilding grassroots support.

Tengku Zafrul, who lost in Kuala Selangor and now leads Umno's Kota Raja division, recently announced plans to join PKR. Zahid said it was better for him to leave if he couldn’t remain loyal.

Analysts warn that mishandling the issue could signal party instability and urge Umno to strengthen internal unity. Another analyst, Ariff Aizuddin Azlan, added that Zafrul’s exit has little real impact as he holds no elected position, but Zahid must show maturity and encourage dialogue to manage the fallout.
