Brunei’s ruler, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, returned home on Tuesday after recovering in Malaysia following his hospitalisation for fatigue during a Southeast Asian leaders’ meeting in Kuala Lumpur last week. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, he returned to Brunei with his consort, Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha, after meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Wan Azizah Wan Ismail. Sultan Hassanal, who was treated at the National Heart Institute (IJN), was discharged over the weekend and remained in Malaysia to rest. Anwar later confirmed on X that the Sultan is in good condition and recovering well. The Sultan holds several key positions in Brunei, including prime minister, finance minister, foreign minister, defence minister, and commander of the armed forces.
