TANGKAK — A 32-year-old unemployed man, Mohamad Khairul Azmi Ithnin, has been charged with murdering his wife, Iecah Junus, at their Bukit Gambir home on June 2.

The charge, read in the Magistrate’s Court, falls under Section 302 of the Penal Code and carries the mandatory death penalty. No plea was recorded.

Deputy public prosecutor Amirah Sapian requested no bail and asked for the accused to undergo psychiatric evaluation. The court approved the request and set July 8 for mention, pending pathology and DNA reports.

Separately, police said the accused is also expected to face a charge in Muar Sessions Court under Section 435 for allegedly setting fire to nine vehicles at his in-laws’ home in Kampung Pengkalan on June 3.
