Heart Attacks Cause Most of 11 Malaysian Pilgrim Deaths in Mecca

MECCA — Eleven Malaysian pilgrims have died during the 2025 Haj season, with most cases caused by heart attacks, according to Religious Affairs Minister Datuk Dr Mohd Na’im Mokhtar.

The latest case involved 68-year-old Jamaliah Masron from Kota Tinggi, Johor, who passed away on June 9 at the Abraj Al Janadriyah Emergency Clinic.

The Pilgrims Fund Board (TH) handled all funeral arrangements, including prayers at the Grand Mosque and burial in Mecca. Families of the deceased have been informed.

Of the 11 deaths, 10 were due to heart attacks, and one was linked to a bacterial infection and organ failure. The government and TH extended their condolences and prayers for the deceased.
