KOTA KINABALU — Sabah Customs seized RM16.6 million worth of smuggled goods during raids at Sepanggar Port between May 14 and 29.
Among the items confiscated were 659,856 litres of liquor worth RM3.97 million, with unpaid duties and taxes estimated at RM11.86 million. In a separate raid on May 16, 28 tonnes of frozen chicken valued at RM233,400 were seized without valid import permits. On May 29, 150 tonnes of fragrant and glutinous rice worth RM356,250 were also confiscated.
All cases are being investigated under Section 135(1)(a) of the Customs Act 1967.
Customs Assistant Director General Siti Mang warned that smuggling harms national revenue and security, urging the public to report such activities via the Customs toll-free line: 1-800-88-8855.
