SHAH ALAM — Transport Minister Anthony Loke admitted the current Kejara demerit point system is ineffective and will be overhauled.

He said the system only deducts points once a traffic summons is paid, allowing many offenders to avoid penalties by simply not paying. Calling it a “failed system,” Loke said a new version is in the works, where demerits won't depend on payment status.

The Kejara system, introduced in 2016 and updated in 2018 under the AWAS programme, will be revamped through legal and procedural changes.
