Penang-born British actress Pik-Sen Lim, best known for her role as Chung Su-Lee in the 1970s sitcom Mind Your Language, has passed away at 80. Born Lim Phaik-Seng in 1944, she changed her name to Pik-Sen after her British friends mispronounced “Phaik” as “fake.”

She made notable appearances in Doctor Who (The Mind of Evil), Johnny English Reborn, and several British TV shows including Coronation Street, The Bill, and Casualty. She also lent her voice to the Dark Souls video game series and featured in Vampire Academy and The Nevers.

The British Film Institute described her as the most recognisable Chinese actor on British TV during the 1970s and 80s. Fellow actor Daniel Y Loh paid tribute to her vibrant spirit and comedic talent, recalling their performances together in Romeo & Juliet and Citizens of Nowhere?. Lim is remembered as a joyful, beloved presence in theatre and television.
