As online shopping grows in Malaysia, scams like cash-on-delivery (COD) fraud and fake parcel SMS phishing are on the rise. Ninja Van Malaysia reported a 5% increase in COD scams this year, where victims either receive parcels they never ordered or low-value items instead of what was promised. These scams often come from fake sellers outside Malaysia using social media and messaging apps. Phishing scams also trick victims through fake courier SMS links that steal banking details. Experts warn that scams now look professional and harder to detect. The public is urged to verify all messages or offers and avoid sending money without confirming legitimacy. Victims should quickly report to the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) at 997, which works with banks to block fraudulent transactions.
