A 21-year-old postgraduate student from Devanandpur Nai Basti near Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, attempted suicide after being pressured into an arranged marriage she didn’t want.
On June 16 at 7:42 PM, she posted on Instagram saying “Goodbye, sorry Amma Appa,” along with a photo of pills. Instagram's parent company Meta detected the alarming post through automated monitoring and immediately alerted Uttar Pradesh police.
Within just 8 minutes, local police reached her home, intervened in time, and provided her with counseling.
Police revealed that the girl wished to continue her studies, but her family was pressuring her to marry, leading to emotional distress. Thankfully, timely detection and response helped prevent a tragedy, and the family has now agreed to resolve the issue peacefully.
