Hundreds of Yellow Shirt protesters gathered outside Thailand’s Government House, demanding Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra step down after a leaked phone call with former Cambodian leader Hun Sen sparked public outrage.

The call, in which she referred to an army commander as her “opponent” and addressed Hun Sen as “uncle,” drew sharp criticism and led to the withdrawal of her key coalition partner, the Bhumjaithai party, which accused her of undermining national dignity.

Protesters, mostly elderly and wearing yellow—symbolic of royalist support—chanted slogans like “Get out!” and held signs calling her a “traitor.” Many have long opposed the Shinawatra family’s influence in Thai politics.

The protest reignited Thailand’s decades-old political divide between pro-Shinawatra “Red Shirts” and royalist-backed “Yellow Shirts,” who were instrumental in past anti-government movements and coups.

With her coalition shaken and calls for military intervention surfacing, Paetongtarn now faces mounting pressure amid growing political instability.
