Actor Vijayakanth, fondly known as “Captain” by the people, was a beloved star who ruled Tamil cinema from the 1980s through the early 2000s. Known for his strong, socially-driven roles in films like Chathriyan, Kuttrapathirikai, Sethupathi IPS, and Vanakkam Captain, his movies left a lasting impact on the audience with messages aimed at creating a better society.

Eventually, Vijayakanth moved away from cinema and entered politics. He was known for his generosity—feeding the poor daily at his home and never turning away those in need. This compassionate nature earned him the title “Captain” beyond just the silver screen.

Vijayakanth also instilled his values in his two sons. According to a recent interview by his son Shanmuga Pandian, the late actor once advised:

"The elder son should serve the people through politics. The younger should follow my footsteps in cinema, and make sure no one goes hungry."

Even after his passing, Vijayakanth's legacy remains alive, with fans across Tamil Nadu still honoring him—some even building temples in his name. His kindness and commitment to the people continue to inspire.
