KUALA LUMPUR — The East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project has reached 85% completion, with Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar directing Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) to tighten monitoring to avoid delays to its early 2027 launch.
Speaking during the 32nd MRL board meeting in Melaka, Shamsul Azri urged vigilance against disruptions like land encroachment, stressing the project’s role as a catalyst for economic growth and improved connectivity between the east and west coasts.
He said the project, aligned with the MADANI vision, would create jobs, spur business opportunities, and benefit the nation through collaboration across federal, state, and private sectors.
