KUALA LUMPUR — Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng has criticised the government’s abrupt imposition of a 10% Sales and Services Tax (SST) on A4 paper from July 1, calling it irresponsible and harmful to businesses, consumers, and the economy.

Lim said the tax was implemented without prior notice or consultation, leaving suppliers unable to honour contracts signed at old prices, including with government agencies. He questioned the lack of transparency and urged disciplinary action against officials behind the decision.

He also called for a two- to three-month transition period to let the industry adjust, warning that such sudden policies could hurt investor confidence and Malaysia’s economic image. Lim stressed the need for transparency and accountability in policymaking.
