KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim arrives in Rio de Janeiro today to attend the 17th Brics Leaders’ Summit, where he will highlight Malaysia’s push for an inclusive global order, AI governance, and multilateral cooperation as Asean Chair.

Anwar will deliver statements on strengthening multilateralism, economic and financial affairs, artificial intelligence, climate change, and global health during the summit, held July 6–7. The visit follows his official trip to France and marks his second visit to Brazil at the invitation of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Malaysia, a Brics Partner Country since January 2024, aims to enhance ties between Brics and Asean to advance sustainable, equitable development for the Global South. Anwar’s delegation includes several ministers, senior officials, and business representatives.

While in Brazil, he is also scheduled to meet aerospace giant Embraer and discuss trade, investment, semiconductors, green energy, and food security. Bilateral trade between Malaysia and Brazil rose to RM20.35 billion in 2024, with key sectors including E&E, rubber, palm oil, and halal food products.
