PARIS — AirAsia’s US$12.25 billion (RM51.7 billion) purchase of Airbus A321XLR aircraft will strengthen its regional and long-haul operations while supporting Malaysia’s goal of becoming Asia’s aviation hub, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said yesterday.

Anwar, who witnessed the MoU signing in Paris, said the deal covers 50 confirmed jets with options for 20 more, to serve routes to Central Asia, the Middle East, and Europe, with deliveries by 2028.

He also welcomed MoUs between 3P Capital Advisers and France’s Ardian to explore private investment opportunities, and held talks with Imerys and Arkema on expanding their high-value, sustainable operations in Malaysia — moves expected to create skilled jobs and boost Malaysia’s bioeconomy hub ambitions.

Anwar is leading Malaysia’s delegation on a two-day official visit to France.
