KOTA KINABALU — The 16th Sabah State Legislative Assembly will automatically dissolve on November 11 if not dissolved sooner, Speaker Datuk Seri Kadzim M Yahya clarified.

He explained the five-year term is counted from the first sitting on November 12, 2020 — not polling day, election results, or swearing-in — addressing public confusion about the date.

If dissolution happens on November 11, the Election Commission must hold state polls within 60 days.

Kadzim also confirmed the upcoming assembly sitting starting tomorrow will table four bills on supplementary supply, state sales tax, forestry, and climate governance. He noted it could be the final sitting if the assembly dissolves after this session.

He praised live-streaming the proceedings on social media for making debates more accessible and encouraging better conduct among assemblymen.

On AI use in the assembly, he said the technology is not fully implemented yet due to language limitations but could assist future legislative work.
