KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta is investigating reports that a Malaysian may be among the victims of the KMP Tunu Pratama Jaya ferry tragedy in Indonesia’s Bali Strait on July 4.

The Foreign Ministry said the embassy is working with Indonesian authorities and its Consular Department to verify the individual’s identity, while staying in close contact with relevant agencies as rescue and identification efforts continue.

Initial reports from Indonesian officials indicated no Malaysians were involved, but verification is ongoing.

The embassy and Foreign Ministry are monitoring the situation and will provide updates. Malaysians needing assistance can contact the embassy in Jakarta at +6281380813036 or email mwjakarta@kln.gov.my, or reach the Honorary Consul in Bali at +62361751953.

The ferry, carrying 65 people and 22 vehicles, sank shortly after departing Banyuwangi for Bali, leaving six dead and 30 missing.
