The Malaysian Bar has announced a peaceful 2.6km “Walk to Safeguard Judicial Independence” on Monday, July 14, starting at 2pm from the Palace of Justice (POJ) in Putrajaya to the Prime Minister’s Office. The march aims to deliver a memorandum urging:
The formation of a Royal Commission of Inquiry into alleged judicial interference.
Immediate appointment of respected judges to top judicial posts.
Swift filling of 31 current judicial vacancies to avoid justice delays.
Assurance of judicial independence and integrity.
This action follows a resolution passed at the Bar’s 79th AGM in March. The walk comes amid concerns over leadership gaps after the recent retirement of the Chief Justice and Court of Appeal President.
