The DRG payment model will launch next year, starting with minor medical cases, to curb rising private healthcare costs, says Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad. The system sets fixed rates based on diagnosis and procedures, and will expand gradually. It ties into upcoming basic health insurance plans and is overseen by a joint committee. Dzulkefly also clarified that the Rakan KKM initiative is not healthcare privatisation but a government effort to speed up non-emergency procedures, with proceeds reinvested into public healthcare.
