Felix Baumgartner, the Austrian daredevil famed for his 2012 edge-of-space jump, died Thursday in Italy after a paragliding mishap, emergency services confirmed.
Authorities said he lost control of his paraglider, reportedly due to a medical issue, and crash-landed in a swimming pool at a holiday residence in Porto Sant’Elpidio, slightly injuring a woman nearby.
The accident occurred around 4pm on Italy’s Adriatic coast. Baumgartner was known for his record-breaking stunts, including his historic 39km freefall from the stratosphere.
