KUALA LUMPUR — A project manager arrested over a data centre graft probe tried to burn nearly RM1 million in cash as MACC officers raided his Petaling Jaya home last Thursday.
According to sources, the suspect panicked and set bundles of RM100 notes alight in the bathroom, filling the house with smoke. MACC officers managed to stop the destruction and later seized about RM7.5 million more in cash hidden in pillow boxes, along with luxury watches and jewellery.
MACC deputy chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the raid and warned that destroying evidence is a serious offence under Section 201 of the Penal Code. The main investigation is ongoing under the MACC Act for bribery and corporate corruption.
