Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar announced the decision to revoke the residency permit of Jonathan Whittall, head of the UN’s humanitarian affairs office (OCHA) in Israel. Saar accused Whittall of spreading falsehoods about the Gaza conflict and displaying biased behavior that violates UN neutrality.Whittall, a South African based in Jerusalem who frequently visits Gaza, has openly criticized the dire humanitarian conditions in the region. In April, he stated that Gazans were "slowly dying" due to Israel's military actions. This move follows a broader Israeli trend of tightening visa and permit policies for senior UN officials, especially since the war with Hamas began in October 2023, affecting staff from OCHA, UNRWA, and the UN human rights office.
