Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s brief stopover in France during Bastille Day was meaningful, highlighted by bilateral talks with President Emmanuel Macron, said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan in Parliament today.Mohamad dismissed claims that Anwar was not given high-level honours, explaining that despite the visit not being official, the prime minister inspected the guard of honour. The stopover was part of Anwar’s travel to the BRICS Summit in Brazil and included long-standing invitations from Italy and France. The minister emphasized the visit’s significance, especially the one-on-one meeting with Macron covering trade, investment, renewable energy, defence, education, and AI. Macron called the visit successful, marking the first high-level Malaysian visit to France in 15 years, with agreements signed on minerals and aircraft.Mohamad added that future official state visits to France would be accorded full honours, similar to other nations.
