The ongoing royalty debate has painted Ilaiyaraaja in a negative light, with reports of him demanding hefty payments — even from small-budget producers — and issuing notices for unauthorized use of his songs.

In contrast, Dhanush has shown generosity, giving copyright permission for a Vetrimaaran-Simbu film and even Vijay Sethupathi’s project without charging a rupee. Despite facing online criticism, often from rival fan groups, Bismi clarified that Dhanush doesn’t depend on royalties to make a living, nor does he have Ilaiyaraaja’s mindset of sending notices and collecting big bills.

Bismi added that while people misunderstand Dhanush, he remains someone who helps many in the industry — a subtle dig at Ilaiyaraaja’s approach.
