WASHINGTON — Iran will not abandon its nuclear programme, including uranium enrichment, despite severe damage from recent US airstrikes, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Monday. He admitted facilities were “seriously destroyed” but stressed enrichment remains a “national pride” and any future deal must include Iran’s right to enrich.
US strikes on June 22 targeted three sites, including Fordow, but Araghchi said Iran retains the technology and will rebuild. He added Iran is open to talks with Europe on Friday in Istanbul and confidence-building with the US — but not direct talks yet.
He also confirmed Iran’s missile programme will continue and dismissed rumours over Ayatollah Khamenei’s health, saying he remains in good shape.
