The Bintulu-Jepak Bridge has officially been renamed the Tun Taib Mahmud Bridge, in honour of the late Sarawak Governor and Chief Minister, Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud. Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg announced the renaming during a ceremony marked by fireworks, highlighting Taib's role in Sarawak’s development, including the founding of Recoda and Samalaju’s growth.
The RM466 million, 1.2km bridge symbolises a promise fulfilled by Abang Johari, alongside plans for new infrastructure like a four-lane road to Bintulu Airport and piped gas supply in Jepak via Petros. He also revealed major energy and industrial projects in Bintulu, including a new gas-powered plant and the expansion of Samalaju Industrial Park.
To support Sarawak’s economic growth, free university education for Sarawakian students will begin in 2026, especially in STEM fields. Future plans include an Autonomous Rail Transit (ART) system linking Bintulu and Samalaju, aiming to make Bintulu a clean, green, and modern city.
