UK families are devastated after discovering serious mix-ups in the remains of loved ones killed in last month’s Air India crash. A lawyer representing 20 British families revealed that some caskets sent to the UK contained mixed or incorrect remains, including unrelated DNA. One family was shocked to learn their loved one’s casket contained someone else entirely.
The crash, which occurred shortly after take-off from Ahmedabad on June 12, killed 241 people—169 Indians and 52 Britons. Only one person survived. The UK coroner uncovered the errors during repatriation checks, prompting concerns over mishandling.
India’s foreign ministry insists the remains were handled professionally and is working with UK authorities to resolve the issue.
