Bryan Kohberger, a criminology PhD student, was sentenced to life in prison without parole for the brutal 2022 murders of four University of Idaho students—Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin—in their home as they slept.

Kohberger, who offered no motive or apology, accepted a plea deal earlier this month, avoiding the death penalty. At the emotional sentencing in Boise, the judge condemned his silence and sentenced him to four life terms, saying it was time to end his "15 minutes of fame."

The case gained nationwide attention due to the mysterious nature of the killings and Kohberger’s background. He was arrested weeks later in Pennsylvania after DNA evidence linked him to the scene.

Some victims’ families were outraged by the plea deal, arguing he should have faced execution. Relatives expressed heartbreak and anger in court, with some hoping prison life or divine justice would deliver the punishment they felt he deserved.
