At least 10 people—five forest workers and five rescuers—were killed while fighting a wildfire near Eskisehir, western Turkey, after a sudden wind shift trapped them in the flames. Fourteen others were injured.
The fire, driven by intense heat and strong winds, has raged since Tuesday, forcing village evacuations. Some victims were reportedly “burnt alive” when the fire unexpectedly changed direction.
Turkey is facing extreme heat, with temperatures up to 12°C above normal. Experts warn climate change is intensifying such deadly weather events.
