German semiconductor manufacturer X-FAB Silicon Foundries SE is investing RM3 billion to expand its Sarawak facility, increasing wafer production capacity from 30,000 to 40,000 per month. The upgraded plant will focus on advanced chips for automotive, medical, and industrial uses, strengthening Sarawak’s role in the global chip supply chain. Malaysia’s Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Aziz highlighted the move as a key milestone in boosting Malaysia’s presence in the semiconductor industry, reflecting sustained foreign investor confidence in the country’s long-term industrial growth strategy.
