KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 — A foreign general worker died after receiving an electric shock while attempting to move an uninsulated cable at a construction site in Petaling Jaya, near here, the day before yesterday.

The Selangor Department of Occupational Safety and Health (JKKP) said it received information about the incident and directed investigation officers to conduct a probe, according to Harian Metro.

“Preliminary investigations found that prior to the incident, a truck was carrying out earthmoving work, and the vehicle’s bucket is believed to have hit an electric cable, causing it to snap and become exposed.

“On the day of the incident, the victim passed by the location and suddenly tried to move the cable, received an electric shock, and lost consciousness,” the statement said today.

JKKP Selangor added that the man was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer from Putrajaya Hospital.

Following the incident, a stop-work order was issued for the site until the investigation is completed, and a prohibition notice was also issued for earthmoving activities.

Further investigations are ongoing under Section 15(1) of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994.
