The indefinite delay of Thalapathy Vijay’s farewell film, Jana Nayagan, has triggered a financial crisis for theatre owners in Tamil Nadu. Trade analysts estimate that the industry has already suffered a staggering loss of RM100 crore (approx. 100 Crore INR) due to the stalled release.
The film was expected to be a massive box office hit following a dry period in late 2025. However, a legal dispute with the Censor Board (CBFC) has kept the movie out of cinemas, leaving distributors and single-screen owners in a state of "survival crisis."
Many theatre owners were banking on this release to recover from previous losses. With the actor's impending transition into full-time politics, the pressure is mounting to resolve the legal hurdles and bring the film to the big screen before the upcoming election season.
