The Malaysia women’s national cricket team faced a challenging start to their campaign in the ACC Women’s Asia Cup Rising Stars 2026, falling to a heavy 106 run defeat against Sri Lanka A in Bangkok. Batting first at the Terdthai Cricket Ground, the Sri Lankan side posted a formidable total of 172/6 in their 20 overs, led by an explosive 52 off 29 balls from Player of the Match Ama Kanchana. 

Malaysia’s bowling attack struggled to contain the aggressive Sri Lankan top order, though Nur Dania Syuhada and Amalin Sorfina managed to pick up two wickets each. In response, the Malaysian batters were unable to keep pace with the required run rate, crumbling under the pressure of a disciplined Sri Lankan bowling unit. Malaysia was eventually restricted to just 66/8 at the end of their 20 overs. 

Top scorer for Malaysia, Nur Izzatul Syafiqa, managed 19 runs off 24 balls, but lacked significant support from the rest of the lineup as five batters were dismissed for single-digit scores. This defeat puts Malaysia in a difficult position in Group B, making their upcoming fixture against Thailand a must-win game if they hope to secure a spot in the knockout stages of the tournament.
