In a historic move, the government officially tabled a constitutional amendment in the Dewan Rakyat today to limit the Prime Minister's tenure to 10 years (two terms). Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said introduced the bill, which proposes that any period a person held the office prior to the law's enforcement will be taken into account retrospectively.
Additionally, the Dewan Rakyat was informed that police officers can be sacked for refusing to accept emergency reports over a complainant's attire, following several controversial incidents. The Deputy Speaker also noted that any official change in the Opposition Leader role must be submitted in writing, amid reports of leadership shifts within the Perikatan Nasional (PN) coalition.
